WISH

What is WISH?
WISH is an educational enrichment community for homeschool families. It is an acronym for “Workshops Investing in Socializing Homeschoolers.”

Where are you located?
We meet at a facility in Pasadena.

How much does it cost?
2009/2010 prices are $300 per year if you are paying out of pocket + materials fees for certain classes and $400 per year if you are using charter school funds. These prices have been reduced to better help our families during these difficult times of our economy.

Why does it cost more if you use charter school funds?
Because it includes materials fees and billing costs.

Are there discounts for siblings?
Yes.

What charter schools are you affiliated with?
We are vendors for Gorman Learning Center and Sky Mountain charter schools.

Who are your teachers?
Our teachers are parent volunteers who have children attending classes at WISH. Most are either credentialed teachers, or are professionals teaching in their field of study and expertise.

What teaching philosophy do you use?
Each of our teachers have their own style. Some like to teach very structured and disciplined courses while others are very free and creative in their exploration. Class Descriptions will help you choose the classes that best fit your family.

How big are the classes?
Class size varies from teacher to teacher, but most are around 10 to 12 students.

If I am assisting a teacher one hour, what do I do with my 2 year old?
We have a “Pre-WISH” area monitored by parents to help our volunteers with their little ones, especially during the hours they teach.

Can we drop off students and pick them up when they’re finished with classes?
No, we are not a drop off center.

Are there any requirements from parents?
Yes, a parent or guardian from each family must give two hours of service to WISH each week. There are many ways to fulfill this requirement. One hour must be served in clean-up or lunch hour duty, the second hour may be served in an area of their choice. Everyone must help, there are no exceptions.
